Australian MPs have written a letter to Younus requesting the announcement of 'Clear Capel' in Bangladesh
Canberra, May 21 (IANS). A group of 41 MPs from Australia wrote a letter to Muhammad Yunus, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, on Wednesday requesting them to announce an election card with a certain time limit immediately and publicly. He described it as an essential and indispensable step to ensure reliable, transparent and inclusive elections in the South Asian country. In addition, the MPs also asked for immediate action to ensure justice for the victims of the July uprising and dissolve the Rapid Action Battalion (RMB) of Bangladesh. The letter mentioned the immediate announcement of a specific election pathway that the path of stability and democratic validity of Bangladesh depends on the transparent and reliable election process. Australian MPs said in the letter: “To restore the credibility of the election and ensure peaceful democratic changes, we are calling on your government to announce a clear selection card as soon as possible, who has independent, fair and international monitoring elections. The Australian Bangladesh community has told us to expect and want to be in this calendar year.” The letter further reads: “Use all legal and administrative measures to ensure equal opportunities for all political parties and prevent any improper impact or oppression. We hope Bangladesh will implement these changes, empower their community and take their right place as a friend and partner with democratic countries around the world.” Australian leaders said the Australian Bangladesh community has requested them several times to encourage the interim government to be held accountable by independent and transparent investigation and legal action to those responsible for crimes of political violence. The letter says: “They also demanded the process of truth, justice and compensation for the victims and their families. We accept the power and humanity of these calls.” The letter tried to resolve the Rapid Action Battalion (RMB) immediately. It is said that several reviews of human rights exposed RMB’s serious violation of human rights, such as illegal murders, forced disappearance and torture. The letter further wrote: We supported the restrictions imposed by the US government on the leadership of RMB and we asked a similar action to the Australian government. With the emphasis on the requirement of election track card, the letter states that the delay or ambiguity at this level will increase unbelief in public and be the democratic future of the country, which calls on the people and international communities of Bangladesh. Your leadership to work decisively. We are ready to get creatively involved in supporting this necessary step towards the restoration of democratic validity. “-Ians PSK/Acade
