To ensure the supply of adulterated food items during the festive season, the Government of Rajasthan is launching the “Clean Food Adulteration Campaign”. As part of this campaign, a joint team of the Food Safety Department raided Bassi tehsil of Jaipur Rural on Wednesday night and destroyed about 3,000 kg of adulterated milk cakes. This quantity was so large that if it had reached the market, the health of thousands of people on Diwali could have been at risk. Based on intelligence information, a major operation was carried out at night. On behalf of Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Control, Dr. T. Shubhamangal, the Central Team of the Commissioner and the Chief Medical Officer, Jaipur II together conducted this operation. The team received information about adulterated milk cakes being made in M/s Shree Shyam Food Products located at Jain Vatika, Revenue Village, Rupana Nangal, Bassi Tehsil. Chief Medical Officer, Jaipur II, Dr. Manish Mittal said that the factory was run by Vinod Sharma and used to make Soan Papdi and Milk Cake. A quantity of adulterated milk was found when the factory was searched and seized. The part of the factory where milk cakes were made was like a house and the main door was closed. Initially, operator Vinod Sharma was reluctant to approach the team. But, at the insistence of the team, when the lock was opened and searched, the view inside was shocking. The team found around 3,000 kg of adulterated milk cakes which were stocked during the Diwali festival season. All these milk cakes are packed in 600 5-kilogram boxes. These ‘milk cakes’ are made of refined oil, semolina and glucose. Investigation revealed that this ‘milk cake’ made from pure milk was actually made from a mixture of low quality ingredients such as semolina, refined soybean oil, liquid glucose and milk powder. This means that under the guise of purity adulterated milk was given to the customers at a higher price. Dr. Mittal said that about 2,500 kg of raw materials (refined soybean oil, semolina, liquid glucose, etc.) were also stocked at the site. Investigation revealed that about 5,000 kg of adulterated milk cake is prepared with this raw material and sold till Diwali. The network of forgery was spread from Jaipur to Sikar. During interrogation, the factory operator Vinod Sharma told that he has been doing this work for the last two years. His supply of adulterated milk cakes was not limited to Jaipur only; His network extended to major cities and towns like Sikar, Shrimadhopur and Chaumu. They used to sell these fake milk cakes at just ₹120 per kg. The price of ₹120 per kg reflects the low cost of production and the quality of the ingredients used, which harms both the pocket and health of the consumer. Samples were taken, 3,000 kg of goods were destroyed on the spot. Food safety officials from the central team immediately took samples of adulterated milk cakes which were sent for testing. The remaining approximately 3,000 kg of adulterated milk cake was completely destroyed on the spot. These officers were involved in the raid. The officers who were involved in the raid say that this action is a strong message to all those adulterers who try to harm people’s health for profit during the festive period. The joint team included food safety officers Devendra Ranaut and Amit Sharma from the central team and Sushil Chotwani, Vinod Tharwan and Rajesh Nagar from CMHO Jaipur II.
