The Department of Public Health Engineering has started five water supply projects based on Hybrid Annuity Model for the first time in the state. The aim of these projects is to ensure permanent and effective water supply system in rural areas. Under Jal Jeevan Mission, these projects will provide 4 lakh 20 thousand household tap connections in about 5 thousand villages, which will provide clean and safe drinking water facility to about 20 lakh people. The total cost of these projects is estimated to be around Rs 18,879 crore. Hybrid Annuity Model is a type of Public-Private Partnership (PPP), which has been implemented by the State Government for the implementation of five important drinking water projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The main objective of this model is to reduce the initial financial burden for water supply projects of the state government and to complete the projects in a time bound manner. In the hybrid annuity model, private companies are given the responsibility for the design, construction and operation of the project. According to this, part of the initial investment for the construction of the project is paid by the government and the remaining amount is given to private companies after successful operation and quality of the project is ensured. This model not only reduces financial pressure but also increases the quality and timely completion of projects. A senior official of the Department of Public Health Engineering said that these five projects will solve the problem of water supply in rural areas and provide assured supply of clean water to the people. He said that this initiative is an important step to strengthen the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state and improve the quality of life of the rural population. Experts say that participation by the public and private sector under the hybrid annuity model ensures financial sustainability and long-term operation of the projects. This ensures timely completion of work in projects and ensures quality water supply. These projects launched under Jal Jeevan Mission will not only reduce the drinking water crisis in rural areas but will also contribute to job creation and local development. Officials said that special teams will be constituted to monitor and operate the projects so that tap connections reach every village on time and regular water supply is ensured.
