Jaipur, October 9 (IANS). Jodhpur’s special CBI court sentenced former income tax officer Shailendra Bhandari to four years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 27 Lakh in an undeniable asset case. Judge Bhupendra Kumar Sanadhya made this decision on Thursday. According to the information, Bhandari acquired 26.46 percent of its total wealth during his tenure in the income tax division. His well -known income was Rs 61.25 Lakh, but the investigation revealed that it had assets worth Rs 1.57 crore, of which Rs 26.6 Lakh was not taken into account and was illegally obtained. Justice Sanadhya said: “Corruption has spread in every sector and the economy of the country as a term of terms. Despite strict provisions under the Corruption Prevention Act, the government employees enjoy corrupt practices.” He said that if indulgence is shown to the accused, it would encourage other corrupt officials and send a wrong message to society. The case dates back to 31 March 2015, when the CBI Bhandari, the then chief commissioner PK Sharma and a jeweler in a bribery case. The investigation revealed that both officers had wealth far beyond their well -known income. Separate cases are registered against him. CBI’s search for Bhandari’s home and office produced extensive documents and records that indicate the accumulation of massive wealth in his and his family’s name. Based on this evidence, on March 2, 2016, the CBI registered a case of undeniable assets led by inspector Mukesh Bansal. According to CBI attorney Bhagwan Singh Bhanwaria, Bhandari began his career as LDC (lower divisional clerk) in the Income Tax Division on January 2, 1978. On 31 March 2015, he was immediately suspended after he was caught taking bribes from a jeweler. The total income of Bhandari and his family between April 1, 2006 and March 31, 2015 was Rs 1.57 crore, while their expenses were recorded at Rs 57.09 Lakh. The court found that Bhandari illegally earned Rs 26.6 lakh or 26.46 percent of its total income, which was declared illegal purchased property. In another bribery case, Bhandari was sentenced earlier to four years in prison and a fine of Rs 1.10 Lakh on September 26, 2025. He remained under suspension from 2015 until his retirement on September 29, 2017.
