Former management members are seeking leadership after Trump's call for Lip-Bu Tan's resignation. But there is a catch
In the midst of calls from Donald Trump demanding the resignation of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, four former directors of the Chipmaking company said its fate should be decided by the shareholders and the board. In a statement to Fortune, four former Intel management members also demanded a radical restructuring of Intel that would renovate the production of vertical manufacturing in an independent company to re-establish its dominant position in the US chipmaking market. Charlene Barshefsky, Reed Hundt, James Plummer and David Yoffie said Intel rented his fourth CEO in seven years, but that the results barely improved. They claimed that only a dramatic shift in the company’s workflow could recover Intel’s competitiveness in the US market, many of which were captured by rival Nvidia. Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan responds to Trump’s claim, Intel CEO, Intel CEO, says he was “always in the highest legal and ethical standards” after President Donald Trump told him to resign. Tan also said Intel is in contact with the Trump administration. “We are working on the administration to address the matters raised and ensure that they have the facts,” Tan said. “I share the president’s commitment to promoting US national and economic safety, I appreciate his leadership to promote these priorities, and I am proud to lead a company that is so central to these goals.” Intel said in a statement that it is “deeply committed to promoting US national and economic security interests and aligning significant investments with the first agenda of the president.” Tan also addressed the situation and said in a message to employees that there is misinformation about his roles in the past at Walden International and Cadence Design Systems and that he has always followed the right standards. What did Donald Trump say? In a post about Truth Social, US President Donald Trump said: “Intel CEO is very conflict and should resign immediately. There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!” His remark comes shortly after Senator Tim Cotton wrote a letter to Intel, Frank Yeary chairman Frank Yeare, in which he flags concern about Tan’s alleged ties with Chinese firms. In his letter, Senator Tim Cotton also has a recent criminal case involving Lip-Bu Tan’s former company Cadence Design, CO CEO of Intel. The senator wrote to “express the safety and integrity of Intel’s operations and its potential impact on US national security”, the senator in his letter asked Intel chairman Frank Yeary. He asked if the board of directors was aware of the summonses that Cadence received during the time Tan was CEO of the company. Cotton also asked questions about the measures that Intel took to address this issue.
