The “platelet deficiency” disease threatens the life of the patient (Abu Ahmed – 60 years). According to Tawam Hospital, it needs 19 thousand dirhams, to renew the health insurance card, so that he can follow up on his condition regularly.

The patient appealed to the people of goodness to help him pay the cost of the card, due to his bad financial situation, pointing out that he left his work almost two years ago, and he was unable to find a new job opportunity.

The patient tells «Emirates Today» that he worked in one of the institutions with a salary of 14 thousand dirhams per month, and during his years of work he was able to follow his health condition, and to provide medicines and pay the cost of treatment of hemalenery disease, which was injured more than 20 years ago.

He said that during the past years he was keen to take treatment on the specified dates, but the management of the institution in which he was working decided in 2023 to end his services.

As a result of his cessation of work, he was unable to renew the health insurance card, and buy medications and platelets he needs, which negatively affected his health.

He said that he is currently dependent on the aid he gets from family and relatives, so that he can buy part of the drugs.

However, last February, symptoms began to appear, such as bleeding in the gums, teeth, nose, during urine and stool, as well as the appearance of dark blue spots on the skin, and a feeling of extreme fatigue.

He added that he went to the emergency department at Tawam Hospital, after he deteriorated his health, and underwent several laboratory tests and analyzes, and he stayed in the hospital for 10 days during which he received treatment and care, and the doctor who continued his health condition recommended that he take medications on its specified times, and he continued to review the hospital to monitor his condition.

He said: “The problem is that I do not know how I can manage the cost of renewing the health insurance card, so that I can receive treatment and reassure my situation.” He appealed to the people of goodness and those with compassionate hearts, extending a helping hand to him, and helping him to overcome his pathological ordeal before his health condition gets worse.

A medical report issued by the Tawam Hospital states that the patient suffers from platelet deficiency, and that he needs to follow his health condition periodically, so that his life is not at risk, adding that the cost of renewing the health insurance card is 19 thousand dirhams.

It is a condition in which the number of platelets in the blood decreases from the normal rate, while the platelets are small blood cells that help in blood clot, that is, stopping bleeding when an injury occurs.
