Local citizens have started a strong protest against the alleged irregularities and possible accidents in the construction of the flyover being built at Lalbagh junction of the city. After the agitation and protest started by the Congress Committee, local citizens now took up the issue and formed “Lalbagh Sangharsh Committee”. The committee took out a walkout on Wednesday and formed a human chain to draw the attention of the administration and the public to the problems and safety threats of construction on the National Highway. The petition was submitted to the Union Minister. The citizens reached the sub-divisional office and submitted a petition containing various issues to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. The petition states that the announcement of the construction of a flyover at the black spot of Lalbagh intersection on National Highway 8 was made in the presence of public representatives and department officials. At the time, the public was assured that the bridge would be built in both directions, which would reduce accidents. But the committee said that even after three-four months of completion of work in one direction, work has not started in the other direction. Because of this, there is resentment among the people and concern about the project. The danger increases due to unfinished construction. It was also said in the memorandum that due to the bumpy divider and incomplete service road, Lalbagh crossing has become more prone to accidents. Committee members said that this area has become dangerous for the local people, and if immediate action is not taken, the chances of a serious accident will increase. Objectives and demands of the committee: Lalbagh Sangharsh Committee has made it clear that this platform will work to convey the problems of the people to the administration and government. People screamed, groaned in pain, died… A couple who went for a pre-wedding photo session described their own death as they witnessed it, and accepted it themselves. The main demands of the committee are: The unfinished bridge construction work must be completed immediately. The intersection and surrounding roads must be made safe and in good condition. Keeping the safety of local people in mind, construction must be done in a balanced manner. The committee expressed confidence in Union Minister Nitin Gadkari that he would immediately act on this serious issue and remove the hazards arising from incomplete construction. Local response and next steps After the committee was formed, citizens protested by taking out marches and forming human chains to spread awareness in the city. Local people hope that the administration takes immediate action against the menace of incomplete construction and black spots. The committee warned that if the demands were not acted upon immediately, there would be massive riots and protests. Share this story Tags
