State Bureau, New -Delhi. The Public Works Department (PWD) intends to build four new Footover bridges (FOBs) in areas with heavy foot traffic. According to officials, Anand Vihar ISBT Exit Gate, Nand Nagri Depot, near Khajuri Flyover Roundabout on Wazirabad Road, near Metro Pillar Number 146 in Osburpur Village in Mehrauli-Badarpur Road and the Welcome Metro station on GT Road in East Delhi. “The FOB committee has approved four more places and tenders, while four new locations are inspected,” an official said. Once the feasibility report is ready, approval is set. The Department of Public Works currently maintains about 115 fobs across the city. Last month, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the ground stone for a phob building project at Rajputana Rifles Center in Ring Road. The places where tenders for construction work have already been issued include Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Marg, Hanuman Mandir near Parmanand Hospital, the red light of the TPM Church and near Kendriya Vidyalaya at Jawaharlal Nehru University Campus. Officials said there is currently no fob on these busy roads. However, there are concerns about the use of many existing FOBs. “There are many such fobs across the city where pedestrians do not use this facility to cross the road,” officials said. In one study, we found that it is places where this foot is over bridges away from shelters or metro stations, or does not have elevators and is not disabled. A study conducted in 2018 by the Delhi Government Planning Department emphasized the reasons why people avoid using FOBs. According to the study, there were a total of 74 feet over bridges and 37 metros. Of the total FOBs, 77 percent did not have elevators, only 23 percent had escalators, and about 70 percent did not have security guards.
