Landscaper Rescues Driver Trapped in Sinking Car, Then Goes Back to Work – ryan

A landscaper’s quick thinking helped save a trapped driver’s life — then it was back to the daily grind.

Tino Mora was mowing a lawn near the intersection of Royal Worlington Drive and Route 59 in Naperville, Tenn., on Wednesday, April 16, when he heard a crash and saw a car swerve off the road and into a pond that was about six feet deep, according to CBS affiliate WBBM-TV.

“The SUV started sinking in the front, and everybody tells her, ‘Jump in the back, jump in the back,’ so she jumped in the back and when she jumped in the back she started drowning,” Mora told local CW station WGN-TV.

Although he knew the authorities were on their way to help, he feared that they might not arrive in time. “There’s no time for the paramedics right now. If I don’t pull her out, she’s gonna drown,’ “Mora recalled thinking to himself, according to the outlet.

In the water, Mora opened the door, but couldn’t see anybody inside — but then felt her jacket so he grabbed on and “lifted her in the air so she could breathe.”

By the time the Naperville Fire Department and the Plainfield Fire Protection District arrived just before 10 a.m., the car was almost completely submerged.

“She was panicking,” Battalion Chief Michael Obman told Fox station WFLD. “She was just clinging to (the car).”

“(Mora) was there long enough to keep her calm. He was in the water, i would probably say mid-chest, mud up to his knees,” Obman continued. “He was just in the right place at the right time.”

Following his actions, Mora went about his day as he normally would, according to WGN-TV. He climbed from the water, drove himself to Walmart, purchased dry clothes and got back to work. Summing up his actions, he said, “I treat others the way the like to be treated and that’s it.”
