Ganga-Jamuni Culture: Muslim women in Varanasi made lamps from cow dung for Dev Diwali.
Varanasi, October 16 (IANS). Preparations for the world famous Dev Diwali are in full swing in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. This year, the ghats will be illuminated with about one million lamps. Muslim women of Varanasi present a beautiful example of Ganga-Jamuni culture, and play an important role in this holy festival. These women are preparing one lakh lamps of cow dung, which will be lit at the ghats during Dev Diwali. In the past 15 days, around 300 women in different groups made lamps together. He says that he is proud to have contributed to brightening Varanasi with his handmade artefacts. This initiative is a unique symbol of Varanasi’s culture of unity and harmony. BJP leader Huma Bano while talking to news agency IANS said that we will make one lakh lamps and distribute them among the people. Social worker Khurshida Bano said, “We have been making cow dung lamps for the last 15 days. Through this I want to give the message of unity between Hindus and Muslims. Continuing its tradition of celebrating a grand Dev Diwali in Varanasi, the Uttar Pradesh administration is preparing to celebrate the occasion on an even grander occasion. Varanasi is going to be historic and eco-friendly. More than 10 lakh people will attend the festival in the city. Lamps will be lit, of which 1 lakh lamps will be made from cow dung. These lamps will be decorated on dams, ponds and ghats, further enhancing the beauty of Kashi. The ghats are decorated with attractive lights and decorations, and special cleaning campaigns are also conducted, so that the beauty and purity of Kashi is maintained. Lakhs of devotees and tourists from India and abroad will reach Varanasi to see this wonderful sight. Before Dev Diwali, there will be a four-day Ganga Mahotsav at Rajghat from November 1 to 4, in which local artists will showcase their art. Every year Dev Diwali makes Kashi a unique platform of faith, culture and tradition.
