Global Health: US AID stops make the efforts to address tuberculosis

The World Health Organization said on Wednesday that the Trump administration’s decision to stop US foreign aid, the progress made with tuberculosis in countries with low and medium income, jeopardizing the lives of millions. “Without taking measures immediately, the progress the self has reached with the combat of tuberculosis is exposed to risk. Our collective response must be quickly and strategic, and are fully supported by resources to protect the most vulnerable groups and maintain the momentum of the tuberculosis elimination.” The organization pointed out that vital international assistance, especially those granted by the USAID agency, helped to avoid about 3.65 million deaths over the past year due to this deadly disease. She added that the United States historically contributed about a quarter of the total financing of international donors for tuberculosis programs, which cost between 200 million and $ 250 million in bilateral financing. The US Agency for International Development has also suspended all the experiments that funded it, which strongly hampered the progress of tuberculosis research. Funding disorders cause 18 of most countries of tuberculosis, and the African region is most affected by the Southeast Asian region and the Western Pacific region. The agency said these areas dependent on 89% of the expected US financing to care for tuberculosis. The withdrawal of financing has already harmed the basic services in these countries, which includes testing and monitoring systems, drug supply chains and thousands of health professionals who are at risk of losing their jobs. In a move that could ease the fear, the US Supreme Court rejected Wednesday to allow the Donald Trump administration to prevent the payment of foreign aid organizations.
