Global PC shipments rose 8.2 percent in the third quarter due to demand for AI PCs
New Delhi, October 16 (IANS). Personal computer (PC) shipments worldwide increased by 8.2 percent to 69.9 million units in the third quarter of 2025. This growth was recorded due to Windows 10 end-of-support (EOS) refresh cycles and increasing demand for AI PCs. The Gartner report said that the AI computing segment will reach 31 percent share in shipments in 2025, up from 15 percent in 2024. This reflects a significant shift in market priorities and innovation. “In the third quarter of 2025, global PC shipments were driven by Windows 10 end-of-support (EOS) refresh cycles in most regions, while North America growth was limited to 1.6 percent as demand accelerated in the first half of the year due to expected import tariffs,” said Rishi Padhi, research principal at Gartner. Rishi Padhi further said that the industry is also turning to AI computing with integrated NPU for on-device AI capabilities. However, consumer demand at low prices remains subdued due to persistent geopolitical and macroeconomic challenges, he said. Consumers continue to show cautious spending behavior, postpone computer purchases and look for promotional offers. There was no major change in the top five supplier rankings worldwide in the third quarter of 2025. Among the top five vendors, Lenovo recorded the strongest growth in global PC shipments at 16.6 percent year-on-year. In addition, all of the top five suppliers reported shipment growth in the third quarter. Lenovo maintained its market leadership position by selling around 19.4 million units and achieved 27.8 percent market share. HP Inc. shipped nearly 15 million units, giving the company a 21.5 percent market share, up 10.6 percent from the third quarter of 2024. Dell, Apple, and Asus shipped around 1.02 crore, 62 lakh, and 54 lakh units, respectively. –IANS SKT/ Share this story Tags
