The appearance of the artist Mohamed Ramadan with a striking and strange look during his participation in the Cochlla Festival for Music and Arts in California, USA, sparked widespread controversy on social media.

The artist sought to explain these unconventional costumes, authorized to be inspired by the “Pharaonic shout”.

In this context, Dr. Magdy Shaker, the chief archaeologist at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, explained that these costumes cannot be considered a real reflection of the clothes that the ancient Egyptians wore.

In a statement to “Masrawy”, he indicated to the piece of clothing that Ramadan wears on the chest area completely different from the ancient Egyptians.

Pharaonic fashion is far from the look of Ramadan

“The Chief Archaeologists of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities added that the clothes of the ancient Egyptians were characterized by completely different characteristics, noting that the designer who chose these costumes did not succeed in drawing inspiration from the ancient Egyptian civilization.

“Shaker” presented a description of the types of clothes that were common in ancient Egypt, explaining the fundamental differences between them and what the artist appeared.

The dress of kings and nobles … the elegance and value of the ruling class

The dress of the kings and nobles was covering the body from below the chest directly to the middle of the thigh, and the tip passes on the left shoulder from the back, while the other end grabbed the chest from the left side with a metal stabilizer.

This garment was fixed with a decorated belt around the body, and the quality and type of fabric used indicate and display the status and title of the person.

The forefront or shirt .. the development of simplicity and practical

“Shaker” pointed to the development of the “lead” or the shirt during the fourth and fifth families, to become a simple or short -sleeved dress, with a round and front slot to enter the head.

It was made from the “mill”, thick or transparent tissue and reaching the knee without a belt, or from an unexplained fabric and sometimes reaching the foot.

The robe .. a symbol of elegance and luxury in the era of the empire

With the emergence of the new Empire (Al-Asrat 18-20), the whole dress became a usual part of the aristocratic layer fashion.

“Shaker” described it as a symbol of elegance and luxury, and it consists of a piece of fabric with twice the stature of the person from the shoulder to the ground, to cover the upper part of the body.
