"I would like to be a romantic starring": Daniel Days Kim about a kind of role he is willing to play in his career
Washington, DC [US]August 24 (Ani): Actor Daniel Days Kim is known for playing the survivor of plane crash Jin-Soo Kwon on ‘Lost’ and police task force member Chin Ho Kelly on ‘Hawaii Five-0’, but there is a role he is still eager to adopt, people reports. The 57-year-old actor, who produces and interpreted the executive in the new Prime Video series ‘Butterfly’, shared that he is looking for a fresh challenge that will surprise fans who know him best for science and action. “I would very much like to be a romantic lead,” he said, adding, “just a boy meets girl – but I get a little old for it, so it may be that the man meets woman,” People reports. He said his wish was linked to the way Asian men were traditionally portrayed in Hollywood. “Traditionally in America, someone who doesn’t look like me doesn’t look like the girl,” he explains. “I’m so glad to see that changing. I really hope it is a hindrance that is not only breaking our community, but one that I can participate in the break. ” Earlier this year, he became the first Asian actor nominated for a Tony Award for the best starring role in a play for his Broadway role in Yellow Face. “I started my career on stage, and I started at a time when the representation was very different from where it is today,” he said of his historic Tony nod according to People. ‘To be nominated for the best main actor is a dream come true and a very good metaphor where we are cultural. We have made a lot of progress, but there is another way to go … The next step we have to take, and not just for me, but for all of us, is for an Asian man to win the category, “he added. In ‘Butterfly’ he plays a former intelligence operator hunted by an agent who also happens to be his daughter. The recording of the show is done at 21 places in South Korea and contains both Korean and English languages. “It is not often that you see what is essentially a love letter to Korea for world audiences,” he said. “If you have never been to Korea or have seen Korea, you will get a nice view of what that country and culture looks like,” People reports. Kim hopes ‘Butterfly’ reflects broader progress in Asian representation. “The culture has changed to a point where this kind of story is not only acceptable but expected,” Kim said. “I am grateful for the progress made by films like Parasite and Crazy Rich Asians, and shows like Squid Game and Beef. These are all steps in the continuum of progress, and if this show is considered a small part of it, I will be very, very proud,” people reports. ‘Butterfly’ is now fully streaming on Prime video.
