Great action at the Mumbai airport, cocaine worth Rs 21.78 crore has recovered, two arrested
Mumbai, October 8 (IANS). The Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) performed great at the Mumbai airport. Dri’s Mumbai Regional Unit seized a large amount of cocaine, which pitched an international attempt at smuggling drugs in a major anti-Narcotics operation. Two accused were arrested in this action. Dri officials have repaired 2,178 kg of cocaine, which is estimated to be about Rs 21.78 crore in the international illegal market, from a male passenger from Freetown (Sierra Leone) on Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). DRI has received a special intelligence information in this case. Based on the information, the officials stopped the passenger upon his arrival and carefully investigated his luggage. During the investigation, several packages of ‘dates’ were recovered from his suitcase. When these packages were searched, it was found that instead of dates seed, a white powdery substance was hidden in small black colored grains. When this substance was tested with the NDPS field set, it was confirmed that it was cocaine. In the rapid action of Dri, not only the cocaine was seized, but the person who took this drug was also arrested at the airport itself. The interrogation of both accused was begun. The drug under the NDPS Act, 1985. The essential legal action was seized against both of the arrested persons. DRI is now investigating further investigation to identify and arrest other members of the International Network for Drug Trade linked to this case. The Revenue Intelligence Directorate said it was determined to create a drug-free India.
