India to host the 89th General Assembly of the International Electrotechnical Commission
New -delhi [India]September 14 (Ani): The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) announced that India will present in Bharat Mandapam, New -Delhi, the 89th General Assembly (GM) of the International Electric Technical Commission (IEC) from 15 to 19 September 2025. The event will bring together more than 2000 experts from more than 100 countries, which deliberate on setting up international electrotechnical standards that will promote a sustainable, all-electric and covenant world. This is the fourth time that India has hosted the prestigious IEC General Assembly, after 1960, 1997 and 2013. The opening ceremony is inaugurated by Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Minister of New and Renewable Energy, while Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Kandels and Industry, the IEC GM exhibition, In august. The exhibition is the largest of its kind in the electrotechnical segment in India, which shows innovations in electric mobility, smart lighting, electronics and IT manufacturing, and will provide a global network platform for Indian Start-ups. India will also serve as the global secretariat for standardization in the field of low-voltage direct current (LVDC), a critical domain for clean and pollutant-free energy solutions. Vimal Mahendru, Vice President of IEC, emphasized that IEC membership includes about 170 countries that represent 99% of the world population, and that it affects almost 20% of global value trade, adding that India’s leadership in LVDC standardization will strengthen global efforts to develop clean technology standards. BIS Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari emphasized the bureau’s efforts to integrate quality and standardization with the academy through student caps and a structured six-month internship program that exposes young professionals to industries and the standards development process. Under the IEC Young Professionals program, 93 young professionals from all over the world participate in workshops, boot camps and visits to the industry to prepare the next generation of technological leaders. Sanjay Garg, DG Designation – BIS, was also present during the briefing. The General Assembly will contain more than 150 meetings for technical and management committee to form the next generation of standards, along with a series of workshops focusing on important emerging areas: promoting a sustainable world (September 15), artificial intelligence: the formation of the future with innovation (September 16), which builds the future of e-mobility (17 September). James Wood, Director of Communications, IEC, said world surveys indicate an overwhelming public support for clean and green solutions, describing India as “a real champion of sustainability”, which makes New -Delhi an ideal host for the global dialogue. The IEC GM exhibition, organized by BIS at Bharat Mandapam, will contain 75 exhibitors, including leading industries, associations and start-ups, demonstrating how international standards drive the development and innovation of the product. The exhibition is open to the public from 16 to 19 September 2025, 14:00 to 18:00, with free access to prior registration at https://gm2025.iec.ch/. Visitors can access the venue through Gate No. 10 and Gate No. 4. More than 2000 students from schools and colleges are expected to visit the exhibition. Visitors to the bis pavilion reflect the theme “promotion of a sustainable world” and are invited to take a digital sustainability promise. For every promise taken, bis will plant one tree over its offices in India, strengthening its commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
