25 -year jailed for sexual harassment of a minor boy to the priest of the Sirsa Temple

A special quick track court here sentenced a temple priest to 25 years strict imprisonment in the case of sexual harassment of an underage boy. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 77,000 on the conviction Raman Giri. Raman Giri was originally from Moga Mandi, Punjab and worked as a priest in the Sherawali Mata Temple in Ding Village in Sirsa. The incident happened on April 1, 2020, when the minor went to the temple and the accused allegedly took him to a secluded room. In his complaint, the boy’s father said that the child returned home after he became upset and after much persuasion, he told of the harassment that happened to him. The priest allegedly threatened the boy that if he told someone about the incident, he should have serious consequences. After the complaint, a case was registered with the Ding police station. Raman Giri was arrested with one of his disciples. During interrogation, the priest allegedly acknowledged the crime. Police have collected important evidence, including the medical report of the victim, cellphone data and statements of witnesses presented during the hearing. The court convicted Giri on Monday. Additional Judge Dr. Naresh Kumar Singhal sentenced today. The priest was sentenced to 20 years under Article 4 of the Poxo Act and a fine of Rs 50,000, two years of punishment under section 506 of the IPC and a fine of Rs 2,000 and a sentence of three years under section 67-B of the IT Act and a fine of Rs 25,000.
