‘He’s A Timid Little Bloke’
Some may already know that Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters isn’t very fond of Thom Yorke or Radiohead since he’s criticized them more than once, like in 2017 when the band played a show in Tell Aviv.
The “Wish You Were Here” creator has been a staunch supporter of Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions for some time,” a Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality, made up of unions, academic associations, churches, and grassroots movements,” per their website.
Waters is now at it again, because he had some choice words for Yorke while speaking on The Katie Halper Show in an interview that was recently posted. The Pink Floyd co-founder is known for calling out his fellow musicians, regardless of the genre.
Some of his criticisms have been about the current state of music, others about politics, which has to do with his issues surrounding Yorke. The “No Surprises” singer engaged in a back-and-forth with Waters in the past, something that Waters spoke about with Halper.
Waters’ Opinion On Yorke
His scathing words about Yorke came right after Halper asked him about Radiohead. At first, Waters told the host that he wasn’t interested in talking about the band, but that quickly changed. “He’s a timid little bloke,” Waters said. “I think he’s unpleasant company.”
“I wrote him many letters, you know?” he continued. “Yes, he did (write back). He did respond. It’s all going in my memoir. He got very, very snarky, and he was trying to be (funny).”
Other Artists Blasted By Waters
The 82-year-old rocker could easily be called the 50 Cent of classic rocksince he doesn’t seem to hold back when ripping other musicians, something that 50 does pretty much weekly. In August, for example, Waters insulted Ozzy Osbourne shortly after his death.
“Ozzy Osbourne, who just died, bless him in his whatever state that he was in his whole life,” said Waters while being interviewed on The Independent Ink podcast.
“The music, I have no idea, I couldn’t give a f–k,” he added. “I don’t care about Black Sabbath, I never did. Have no interest in biting the heads of chickens or whatever they do. I couldn’t care less, you know?”
Ozzy’s son, Jack Osbourne, hit back on Instagram and called Waters pathetic as well as out of touch. Waters also once insulted Van Halen by saying he doesn’t care about their music, and he also accused U2 of copying Pink Floyd.
Rappers and pop artists haven’t been spared either, because Waters spoke ill of Drake and The Weeknd, once saying, “With all due respect to the Weeknd or Drake or any of them, I am far, far, far more important than any of them will ever be, however many billions of streams they’ve goth.”
Yorke hasn’t responded to Waters yetbut he did post a social media message in May, months after his solo show in Australia was interrupted by a Pro-Palestine supporter. Yorke said that his silence on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict should not be confused with complicity.
