Holds Congress, Betawi People's Assembly urges review of regional regulations on cultural preservation

Jakarta – The Betawi People’s Council held a special congress that took place at the Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) Pencak Silat Padepokan, East Jakarta. The congress made three important decisions, including encouraging the revision of Regional Regulation number 4 of 2015 on the preservation of Betawi culture. Chairman of the Trustees of the Betawi People’s Council (MKB), Marullah Matali, said that this congress started from the direction of the governor and deputy governor of DKI Jakarta for the Betawi people to strengthen their role and solidarity to face Jakarta’s future changes as a global city. “We were asked to create a stronger Betawi atmosphere. And the requirement was to hold a congress to address the development of global Jakarta. Today we are carrying out that mandate,” Marullah said at TMII, East Jakarta, Saturday (18/10/2025). Scroll TO CONTINUE CONTENT He emphasized that the results of the congress will soon be conveyed to the governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung and the deputy governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno. According to him, the most important thing is to strengthen the power of the Betawi people in Jakarta again so that they can actively contribute. “Betawi children of Jakarta, in their own city, must provide maximum support to the government, both central and provincial. Betawi must not be left behind in government programs,” he stressed. Marullah also stressed the importance of internal cohesion. That way, Betawi people can contribute well to the government. “You have to be united, you have to be united. If there are differences, they can be resolved internally. That way Betawi can make the best contribution to the government,” he said. In this forum, the SME agreed on three main decisions, namely to re-appoint Fauzi Bowo as chairman of the Betawi People’s Council Traditional Council and Marullah Matali as chairman of the Trustee. Second, strengthening the status and position of the SME as the only main pillar and forum for the gathering of Betawi people and Jakarta residents in general, by upholding the noble values ​​of Betawi culture. Finally, encourage the revision of Regional Regulation Number 4 of 2015 on the Preservation of Betawi Culture so that it is in line with the 2017 Law on the Promotion of Culture and Law Number 2 of 2024 on the Special Regional Province of Jakarta.
