Canada, Australia and the UK recognize Palestinian state before the UN General Assembly
The United Kingdom, Australia and Canada acknowledged the Palestine state on Sunday as part of an attempt to revive momentum for a two-state solution. The United Kingdom has acknowledged Palestinian state despite the opposition of the US and Israeli Prime Minister Anthony Albanians, said Australia formally acknowledged the state of Palestine, but Hamas should have no role in Palestine. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Sunday that his country is now recognizing the state of Palestine. “Canada recognizes the state of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the state of Palestine and the state of Israel,” Carney said in a statement. “The recognition of the state of Palestine, led by the Palestinian authority, empowers those who seek peaceful coexistence and the end of Hamas. It does not in any way legitimize terrorism, nor is it reward for it,” Carney said. The Canadian Prime Minister also said the Palestinian authorities provided “direct obligations” to Canada with the reform of its management, to hold general elections in 2026 in which Hamas “can play no role” and demilitarize the Palestinian state. The development comes because more than 140 members of the United Nations have recognized a Palestinian state, in a break with a long -standing policy despite strong opposition from Israel.
