The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, with 242 people, including 12 crew members, crashed shortly after being from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. As a result, flight operations were disrupted at the airport, which asked the railways to step in to support stranded passengers. Western Railway also sent its disaster management team, along with medical staff and RPF staff (Railway Protection Force) (RPF), to help the Gujarat government and other agencies with continued rescue and assistance efforts. “In response to the tragic Ahmedabad aircraft crash, Western Railway’s disaster management team actively expands full support in relief and rescue operations on the site while retaining close coordination with the state,” the Railway said in a statement. “The Western Railway Medical Team and RPF staff (Railway Protection Force) have already been deployed to help with rescue operations.
