How many hours is it okay to run the heater in a room? Nishant Kumar October 20, 2025 It is not right to run the heater continuously for more than 3-4 hours as it may cause lack of oxygen in the room. Keep some ventilation in the room while running the heater so that fresh air keeps coming in and doesn’t suffocate. Due to the hot air coming from the room heater, there can be a problem of dryness and irritation in the eyes. Asthma patients should use fewer heaters. Use smart heaters with timers for safety. Sleeping with the heater on can be dangerous. There is a risk of suffocation because of this, so make sure you turn off the heater while you sleep. The heater should always be used at a distance of at least five feet from the bed. Always keep the heater on a setting that keeps the room temperature at 18-20°C. Excessive heating is harmful to health. Running a coal fire or heater continuously for 6-8 hours in a closed room quickly depletes the room’s natural oxygen. Do not use an electric heater that is more than 10 years old and have it serviced regularly. Click here to read more stories
