HSCL building -collapse in Bokaro, residents escape unharmed

When cracks appeared, people became vigilant and went out, thereby averted a major accident. However, goods worth lakhs were buried under the rubble. The leaders accused the management of negligence because the houses were not evacuated, and that they did not expire. There were a crowd of people on the spot. (Jagran) Jagran correspondent, Bokaro. A major accident was averted on Saturday in Sector 1B from Bokaro Steel City. Old Houses Numbers 352, 354, 356, 360 and 364 of Hindustan Steel Construction Limited (HSCL) were completely damaged and hit on the ground. At the time of the incident, people became vigilant after hearing the sound of cracks in the homes and coming out of the house. Within a short time, the buildings collapsed. It was fortunate that no one died, although goods worth the rupees living on the people living in these houses were buried under the rubble. According to eyewitnesses, cracks suddenly appeared in the house on Saturday morning. The local resident SN Prasad said that when the cracks began to increase, he and other families immediately vacated the home. The whole block collapsed at about 6pm. After receiving information about the incident, MP Dhulu Mahato, Congress District President Jawahar Mahatha, JMM City President Mantu Yadav, District President Buddha Narayan Yadav, BJP’s Mukesh Rai, Amar Swarnkar, arrived. The leaders said that the people who live here did not vacate the houses because alternative arrangements have not been given until now. Management is completely responsible for this loss. MP Dhulu Mahato said maintenance work is not done throughout the city. Management officials have endangered the lives of their own employees. The officers are just shining their home. In the year 2018 itself HSCL Home Blocks damaged 351 to 366. Nevertheless, no initiative was taken to completely vacate these houses. SN Prasad, who lives in Blok-361, said that a total of 16 houses were declared unsafe in two blocks, but due to departmental negligence, many families were forced to live here. The administration or management also appeared in the house earlier, but the administration or management did not take any concrete steps. People say that, despite repeated warnings, no one has taken steps to take recovery or rehabilitation, which resulted in Saturday’s incident. The intelligence section sent a report to the state government on the poor condition of the houses. More than twelve hundred houses have been damaged and instead of evacuating it, management is recovering the money. Bokaro Steel Management has already declared a total of 161 blocks from Sector 12 and Sector 6. This includes 142 blocks in sector 12 and 19 blocks in Sector 6. Similarly, HACL declared four blocks. The walls, balconies and steps of these buildings are constantly falling, which allows a major accident to occur at any time. Management issued notices to the employees and their families living in these blocks and asked them to move to alternative accommodation, but did not vacate them. On the contrary, the Department of Municipal Services of HSCL and Bokaro ISPAT does not remove these damaged homes from their records. Even for the homes that have been declared dilapidated and dangerous, the department regularly collects rental, water and electricity bills. Although the normal procedure is to remove water, electricity and accessories from the damaged home, the officials here do according to their wish.
