Iconic film that ‘defined the 2000s’ gets major update as star teases sequel

Starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci, the 2006 dramedy is widely considered a classic
Emily Blunt has teased an exciting update for an Oscar-nominated film she featured in 18 years ago.
Starring Meryl Streep as the unforgiving fashion magazine editor, Miranda Priestly, The Devil Wears Prada is often named among the actress’ best performances.
Viewers follow aspiring journalist Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), who moves to New York and lands a job as Miranda’s assistant. As she navigates the big city, and the harsh fashion world, Andy begins to question her ability to succeed as a writer, while trying to survive her domineering boss.
The 2006 dramedy garnered a cult following for its off-beat humor and gained critical success, including an Oscar nomination for Streep. Now, Blunt has hinted that a sequel is in production.
While discussing her career at the Red Sea International Film Festival today (December 5), she was asked whether the beloved comedy will have a follow-up.
The 41-year-old responded: “There’s rumblings, there’s stuff turning around, but I don’t know if I can confirm anything completely. But we would be all delighted to work together again.”
Blunt played Miranda’s bitter senior assistant Emily Charlton. However, she did not confirm whether the ensemble cast will reprise their parts in the potential sequel.
Elsewhere in the chat, the British actress credited the role for opening her career up to various acting opportunities.
“Playing that character, who was so insane, it paved the way for people to see me more as a character actor rather than someone who should just be in period drama… a lot of British people are just subjected to wearing a garnet or a crown at some point,” she said.
Blunt also confessed to being surprised by the impact The Devil Wears Prada had. She recalled her agent calling her after the film’s opening weekend to inform her about the box office profit, to which she tentatively replied: “Is that good?”
She went on to reveal that the story’s memorable one-liners are still quoted to her: “When we were filming it, we were crying with laughter every day.
“We thought we were making something funny… but I didn’t know that it would become this thing that would catch fire in the way that it did… it’s quoted to me every week now.”
Almost two decades after it hit cinemas, the entertainment publication Collider crowned the drama as one of the top ten movies that ‘defined the 2000s’, ranking it above the cult classic Mean Girls.
