The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the release of Sukhdev Yadav Alias Pahalwan, who was convicted in the Nitish Katara murder case in 2002, saying that he had completed 20 years in March this year. The Sentencing Review Council rejected the petition of its apology from Sukhdev’s actions. The Supreme Court said Yadav should have been released after the completion of 20 years of sentence. Additional attorney Archana Pathak Dave, who appeared by Delhi government, argued that it could not be automatically released after a 20 -year sentence, and life imprisonment means to stay in jail for the rest of his life. However, senior lawyer Siddharth Mridul, who appeared for Sukhdev Yadav, argued that his client completed his sentence on March 9, 2025. He denied any valid justification to continue Yadav from March 9, saying that the government of Delhi misinterpreted the sentence. The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended an increasing interim bail for four weeks to Vikas Yadav, who served a 25 -year imprisonment in the Nitish Katara murder case in 2002, for four weeks to take care of his sick mother. A Bank of Justice MM Sundarsh and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh asked Vikas Yadav to go to the Delhi High Court for the waiver of the punishment in the case. The Pointing Court has raised Yadav’s interim bail on medical grounds.
