  • Birth stage

At this stage, the muscles of the uterus contract significantly and frequently, and the fetus moves to the pelvic area to be prepared to go out, and the fetus envelope membranes that facilitate the birth process and the passage of the fetus from the uterus to the pelvis, this stage is the most exhausted stages of birth to the cat, in which the fetus comes out after the other in periods ranging from 10 minutes to an hour.

  • The placenta separation stage and the membranes of the membranes

When the cat gives birth to its fetus, it gets rid of the placenta, tears the membrane, bites the umbilical cord and eats it after birth, and begins to clean small cats, especially the ear, and mouth, by licking it.

The number of times the cat is based on the rut cycle, as this cycle comes to female cats seasonally, and it is often in the months of spring and autumn (twice a year), and during this period the pregnancy occurs, and during this course that lasts from 9-10 days if it does not mate, it ends after four days.(٤)

During this period, cat breeders must be found to provide the necessary care and support for the cat, as sometimes intermarriage between male and female is rejected, which results in severe battles and injuries, in addition to the necessity of caution for the emergence of aggressive behavior in some females at times, as it performs some annoying behaviors such as: scratching or biting for the educator.(٤)

Symptoms of pregnancy in cats

Cats show symptoms indicating their pregnancy, and the most important of these symptoms and signs are:(٧)

  • The color of the nipples has changed, as after the third week of pregnancy, the cat’s nipples become dark in relation to its natural color and its size is enlarged, and a brown material may be secreted during pregnancy, although the milk is only excreted after birth.
  • The occurrence of nausea, some females are exposed to nausea, especially in the morning period, and it is preferable to review the veterinarian in the event of a large number of nausea.
  • Flawed, flatulence in heavyweight cats may be difficult, but continuing to increase the size of the abdomen in the cat is evidence of pregnancy, and cats often increase in pregnancy a 1-2 kg.
  • Choosing a quiet place to stay, after the first weeks of pregnancy, the cat begins to search for a quiet place to stay in, during this period, actions characterized by kindness and tenderness appear and the sound of breach is issued, and it may be few tolerance with the animals surrounding it.
  • After today 40-45 for pregnancy, ultrasound can be used to know if the cat is actually pregnant or not after the previous symptoms appear on them, in some cases the veterinarian accepts the ultrasound of the sound waves, but they will not be of great benefit, especially in knowing the number of cats, and X-rays can be used to detect the load of cats as it is safe.

The cat’s food habits can be observed, as the pregnant cat may begin to refuse to eat, and in other cases after the third or fourth week, the cat refrains from eating for long periods of time that may reach three days, and in contrast to excessive appetite, and some cats begin to eat more than usual.(٨)

One of the most important things that must be paid to the distinction between obesity and pregnancy in cats, as when looking at the cat from the top is the belly of the pregnant cat, swollen from the middle of the neck to the tail, and from the side the abdomen will look round and swollen, while obesity is the shift of the cat from all sides, including its feet and neck.(٨)

Cats may be subjected to false pregnancy as a result of unsuccessful mating or because of artificial ovulation, as the female cat shows symptoms of pregnancy, such as: nipples enlarged and lymph nodes, but these symptoms disappear after the fortieth day automatically.(٤)

How to take care of cats while carrying them

Cats educators must deal with the cat during pregnancy in a natural and quiet way as possible, as dealing very sensitively with the cat during this period may cause many problems, especially during childbirth, so it is necessary to follow the following instructions to provide care for cats:(٤)

  • Maintaining the amount of eating and not increasing it except in the last stage of pregnancy, especially the last two weeks, which must be taken into account that the female in recent periods is exposed to all or eat in very small quantities at several periods during the day.
  • Get rid of cat tools that allow them to jump from high heights, as medium activity is especially permitted during the last stage of pregnancy.
  • Refrain from using pesticides, especially within the area where the pregnant cat is located.
  • Monitoring the case of the cat’s output, as constipation cases may consist of a sign of a risk, and therefore it is necessary to provide special laxatives.
  • When using any medical medications for any disease, it must be ensured that they do not affect pregnancy and fetuses.
  • Working to prepare a place for birth, especially in the late stages of pregnancy, and this is by providing a box of wood or plastic and placed in it a number of pillows and ingredients for fluids that can be eliminated after the birth process, which helps the cat feel safe and comfortable.

The stage of carrying cats lasts from 63-65 days, this stage is characterized by allergies in the cat, in which some friendly features appear, especially for those who raise them, but they appear in return some hostile features of the animals in its vicinity, and this period requires the provision of physical and food care to the cat, without excess or negligence, and it is preferable that the cat will be born in a closed place to feel safe and not threatening.
