Dad Does Laundry, Then Notices Something’s Missing—Baby’s Face Says It All – ryan
A man thought he was losing his mind when he couldn’t find his shirt from the laundry pile, only to realize he had a tiny thief on his hands: his baby daughter, Lucy.
Alex, a realtor from Olympia, Washington, is a proud mom to two daughters, including 3-month-old Lucy, who has become an overnight social-media star after her antics with her dad, Ryan, were caught on camera.
“Lucy is so funny; she’s always laughing and has got the best smile,” Alex told Newsweek. She added that her daughter is “so social” and adores the whole family, which includes her big sister with Rett Syndrome, a rare genetic neurological and developmental disorder that affects the way the brain develops; Alex said Lucy’s “love for her sister is just so pure.”
Lucy now has a huge online fan base, too, as a video to Alex’s TikTok account @thesingingrealtoralex has racked up over 3.1 million views since being posted on April 2.
The clip shows dad Ryan holding Lucy, who are both looking at the camera, the little girl keeping a tight grip on a shirt, which is hanging from her tiny fist.
As Alex asks Ryan to tell the camera what has just happened, he says he was bringing the laundry into the room, when he realized he only had socks, and the shirt had disappeared.
“I was losing my mind because I didn’t see it on the floor anywhere,” Ryan said, and as he spoke, Lucy—still holding on to the shirt—broke into a wide, cheeky grin, causing Alex to burst out laughing.
“You stole the shirt?” Alex asked her still-grinning daughter, as Ryan interjected: “Making me feel like I’m going crazy.”

Alex captioned the video, “Sneaky little shirt thief,” and told Newsweek that Ryan had returned from a work trip and was taking care of his laundry now that he was back home.
Alex said: “He was grabbing his work clothes and went into our room with socks and a shirt while holding Lucy, and, as he threw the clothes onto the bed, he only saw socks hit the bed.
“He spun around a few times, couldn’t see the shirt. Ended up walking through our house looking for if he dropped it anywhere and couldn’t find it.”
Ryan “thought he lost his mind,” Alex said, until he “went back into the bedroom and laid Lucy onto the bed—and as he did, the shirt she was holding ended up folding on top of her and he realized she had been holding it the entire time.”
When Ryan told her the story, Lucy “had the biggest smile on her face,” and Alex knew she had to capture the moment on video.

A medically reviewed post from What to Expect said that, at 3 months old, babies are generally full of smiles, and have learned to laugh out loud. At this age, they will also have learned to reach for toys, and will especially love things they can grab hold of—as seen in Alex’s video.
The clip proved hugely popular, with more than 800,000 likes, as one commenter joked it was “baby’s first April Fools prank,” and another noted that Lucy looked “so proud” of herself.
“It’s like she understands this entire conversation. Babies are so smart,” a third posted, as one comment pointed out Lucy’s “smile got bigger as he was telling the story.”
Alex said that Lucy will “definitely grow up to learn one day she went viral for being a shirt thief.”
The mom added: “It’s truly amazing seeing her laugh and love on everyone; she’s such a social little girl.”
