In commemoration of Culture Day, Minister of Culture invites people not to forget cultural roots

Jakarta – The Ministry of Culture held a Culture Day celebration at the Fort Vredeburg Museum, Yogyakarta. Through the theme ‘Celebration of diversity’, the anniversary of Culture Day 2025 is the first momentum and proof that the government has made culture the main pillar of national development. In his cultural speech, Minister Fadli Zon said the establishment of Culture Day is a proposal from various cultural actors to celebrate the diversity of Indonesian cultural expressions. “The institution of Culture Day on 17 October is the result of discussions with artists, cultural figures and cultural activists, the essence of which is to celebrate the diversity of cultural expressions throughout the archipelago,” he explained in a written statement on Friday (17/10/2025). PAGE TO CONTINUE CONTENT Fadli also highlighted President Prabowo Subianto’s efforts to make culture the pulse of the nation. According to him, Indonesian cultural expressions have been increasing more and more for almost a year since the Ministry of Culture was established, and Culture Day is a marker of this revival. Fadli Zon also invited the entire community to work together to keep the fire of culture burning amid the flux of world civilization. He emphasized that a great nation is a nation that never forgets its cultural roots, and invited all parties to promote Indonesian culture so that it is more creative, competitive and firmly rooted in tradition. “We must work together to promote Indonesian culture, actively preserve cultural heritage and build a more advanced, creative and competitive nation. Let’s continue to protect and nurture our culture, because a great nation is a nation that never forgets its cultural roots,” he said. The celebration by the Ministry of Culture through the Directorate General for the Protection of Culture and Tradition was packaged in a collaborative and participatory manner. The series of events include Ruwatan Nusantara and prayers on indigenous communities, theater performances, cultural speeches and cultural carnivals from Sabang to Merauke. The determination of 17 October as Culture Day is based on Minister of Culture Decree Number 162/M/2025. This determination coincides with the birthday of the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika and the signing of the government regulation on the state symbol Garuda Pancasila by President Soekarno in 1951. This momentum also highlights the strategic role of culture in strengthening national identity, promoting a spirit of unity, and maintaining the sustainability of the cultural dynamic time of the Indonesia’s time. As a form of appreciation, Fadli Zon gave the Minister of Culture Award to a number of institutions that play an active role in maintaining the cultural flame. Recipients of awards include the National Secretariat for Indonesian Wayang (Senawangi) for National Wayang Day, the National Secretariat for Indonesian Wayang (SNKI) for Keris Day, the Association of Indonesian Comedy Artists (PaSKI) for Comedy Day, the Poetry Day Foundation for Poetry Day, the Association for Oral Traditions (ATL) for Pantun Day and the Indonesian Museum Day (AMI) for Pantun Day and the Indonesian Museum Association.
