In the midst of destruction, women from Lahaul-Spiti offer food and shelter to tourists and truck drivers flooded

In the tribal district of Lahaul spiti, there was widespread disruption and destruction due to ongoing heavy rain from 25 to 27 August. Due to the rain, many landslides and sudden floods in different parts of the district, causing the Manali-Leh highway and many other contact routes, which sit in the areas of Manali-Leh Highway and many other contact routes. The district administration led by Bhadana has launched a rapid coordinated relief and rescue operation. The campaign included joint collaboration between Border Roads Organization (Bro), Department of Public Works (PWD), police, local women’s groups, voluntary organizations and residents. According to DC, cooked food was distributed to people trapped on the first day of Keylong. Later, Sissu Mahila Mandal founded a community kitchen (Langar) to provide food to trapped tourists and truck drivers. Essential relief material such as drought ration, blankets, blankets and sleeping bags were distributed to the needy people. DC reported that three seriously ill patients, including a pregnant woman, were rescued and taken to Keylong Regional Hospital. He was rushed to Kullu regional hospital later on Thursday, where the medical team stayed with him during the entire campaign and ensured proper care during the withdrawal. He further said: “Important rescue operations were also performed in various places. 250 to 300 people were stranded between Crazy Drain and Telling Nala; 148 passengers in 107 vehicles were caught between Japa and Stangari; and 80 to 90 people were trapped near Udaipur.” All of this is provided with food and temporary shelter through the administration. DC said: “A group of 13 students from Kolkata and a group of four teachers were housed in the Rest House of Keylong, the Department of Public Works.” He said, “Attempts were successful in finding the missing people, as three pilgrims of Muring Village were found. One returned home safely, while the other two continued their journey with local shepherds according to two weather conditions.” DC said that most tourists were delivered to Manali and not a single tourist in the Lahaul Valley. He further said that the focus will now be on the transport of trucks, including trucks from the Lahaul Valley, to their destinations. DC said a special rescue team is sent to the Miyar Valley to remove 30 to 35 trapped clays (nomadic shepherds). The team is expected to reach a campaign soon to reach the valley and bring them back safely. ‘Essential services have been restored to a war foot.’ DC Bhadana said: “Telecom services were restored on Wednesday, while the power source resumed on Friday. The Bro and the public works division work all the time to reopen the blocked roads and many large routes have already been cleaned.” Despite bad weather and inaccessible terrain, he visited areas affected individually, inspected rescue and assistance and increased the morale of the leading workers. He also coordinated with different departments to ensure timely recovery of electricity, water supply and mobile connectivity.
