Income Tax: The last date to submit an income tax return is September 15, 2025. So far, only five returns have been submitted in the crore across India, the latest data from the Department of Income Tax (IT) have been submitted as on September 8. From this, 4.72 crore yields are verified and 3.39 crore yields processed. Last year, a total of 7.28 crore ITRs were submitted until the last date. However, some experts want the tax return deadline to be extended. They argue that the Excel utility functions of most income tax forms are fairly released late, providing insufficient time to submit the returns. The online tools of ITR-1 and ITR were released on June 4. The ITR-2 online program was released on July 17, and the ITR-3 utility was released on July 30. Another CA Sanjay Ramavat also made the same complaint by writing that AIS, TIS is not accessible. One user, Mathew Dsouza, wrote satirically that if the IT section could not extend the expiration date, despite their own delays, why do they need 1+ years to process returns? Another user who calls the name of RS & Company also requested the department to expand the expiry date immediately by mentioning the performance of pathetic site. One chartered accountant, Nitin Kaushik, cited several reasons as a reason for the expansion, from the late release of forms to the floods. ‘If the government does not offer an expansion for tax returns this year (late forms, portal errors, flooded everywhere).
