The death of 4.5 million women and a child during pregnancy or birth annually
A report issued by the United Nations said that more than 4.5 million women and a child die every year during pregnancy, birth or the first weeks that are equivalent to one death that occurs every 7 seconds worldwide, for preventative or treatment reasons if appropriate care is available. Every year, the report shows 290,000 deaths between mothers, 1.9 million births in a dead child, and 2.3 million deaths for newborns in the first month. He pointed out that “the slowdown in the global progress in reducing death is due to the low investment in the health of the mother and the newborn baby.” The report emphasized that the global progress has made the improvement of survival in general, and in the number of mothers and newborns in particular, since 2015 due to the exacerbation of humanitarian crises, the increasing poverty and Corona epidemic. The new report was launched at a World Conference in “Cape Town” in South Africa, with the aim of accelerating the recovery and progress in the health of the mother and the newborn, and promoting targeted investments in primary health care, as well as innovation and the daring partnerships through programs that help improve countries. Funding has dropped, the outbreak of the corona, the increase in poverty and the exacerbation of humanitarian crises to strengthen the pressure on the exhausting health systems. Since 2018, more than three quarters have reported all countries affected by conflict, and Africa under Sahara, the decline in funding for the health of mothers and newborns. Only one in ten countries (from more than 100 countries included in the poll) have informed sufficient funds to implement healthcare plans in this regard. About a quarter of the countries are still reported by continuous disturbances in important pregnancy services after childhood. Less than a third of the two countries reported that there are sufficient number of newborn units to treat young children and patients, although “prematurely – children born before the 37th week of pregnancy – is the main cause of all deaths of children under the age of five in the world.” Meanwhile, about two -thirds of emergency facilities in sub -Saharan Africa are not working at full capacity, which means they do not have basic resources such as medicine, supplies, water, electricity or employees for 24 hours. Lack of tests and in the countries most affected in the Sahara Sahara in Africa, and Central and South Asia, where the areas with the largest birth burden and mothers, less than 60% of women, received four prenatal tests from eight recommended by the World Health Organization. To increase survival figures, women and children must receive good health care at and during birth, the report, in addition to access to family planning services. More competent health professionals are needed, as well as medication, basic supplies, drinking water and reliable electricity. The report emphasized that the interventions should target especially the poorest women and the groups that are likely to miss life. ‘Dangerous offense’ and according to the report requires improving mothers and newborns and gender inequality. Modern data shows that about 40% of women between the ages of 15 and 49 do not make their own decisions regarding sexual and reproductive health and rights. Julita Unabango, director of the Technical Department of the United Nations Population Fund, said that the death of any woman or girl during pregnancy or birth is a serious violation of their human rights. Onabago pointed out that the deaths of pregnant women “reflect the urgent need to expand access to good sexual and reproductive health services as part of comprehensive health coverage and primary health care, especially in societies where mothers’ death figures have been stagnated or even increased over the past year.” Onabango emphasized that the treatment of mothers and births requires the elimination of the underlying factors leading to bad results for the health of the mother, such as social and economic inequality, discrimination, poverty and injustice. The difference between countries, the director of mother, newborn health, child and teenager, said: “If we want to see different results, we must do things differently.” He added: “There is now a need for more intelligent investments in the field of primary healthcare for every woman and child, regardless of their living.” Also read:
