India will soon be free from Maoist terror: Prime Minister Modi

New Delhi, October 17 (IANS). In his powerful speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the crisis of Maoist terrorism in India is nearing its end. He said it was his personal guarantee that the country would soon be free from this menace. Prime Minister Modi condemned Maoist violence, which has prevented development for decades and taken the lives of poor villagers, farmers and tribal communities. He emphasized that Maoist influence has reduced a lot and a new beginning of progress is being made in the affected areas. In his emotional speech at the NDTV World Summit held in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the plight of the victims who came to Delhi recently and pleaded for their voices to be heard for seven days. Prime Minister Modi said that poor villagers, farmers and tribals, some of whom are amputees, hold press conferences with folded hands so that their message can reach the people. He criticized urban Naxalites who allegedly hid Maoist atrocities during the Congress rule and flouted the Constitution. PM Modi said due to Maoist violence for more than 50 years, schools, hospitals and basic facilities were not available in many areas of India. Maoist terror is injustice and sin against our youth. He shared the pain of many mothers who lost their sons to Naxal violence. Expressing happiness over the progress, Prime Minister Modi said that earlier 125 districts were affected by Maoist violence, but now only 11 districts remain, of which only three are highly sensitive. He said that a great achievement has been achieved in the last 72 hours. 303 Naxalites, including big Naxalites carrying rewards up to Rs 1 crore, surrendered. These were no ordinary Naxalites. Now they are ready to adopt the Constitution. He attributed this change to his government’s commitment to constitutional values. He said that this surrender shows that former Naxalites are now abandoning violence and trusting the democratic fabric of India. Prime Minister Modi talked about change in areas like Bastar, which was once a stronghold of Naxalites. Now tribals of Bastar organize Olympics there, which are a symbol of social and cultural upliftment. He said that this Diwali, the festival will be celebrated without fear in Naxal affected areas. The Prime Minister further said that the day is not far when India will be completely free from Naxalite terrorism. He called it his personal guarantee. –IANS PSK/ABM
