New -delhi, September 10 (IANS). The Wushu team from India achieved four medals in the 17th World Wushu Championships held in Brazil, with four medals, which are their best ever in the competition. The championship was held from 31 August to 7 September 2025. The Indian team won three silver and one bronze medals. Aparna Dahiya (52 kg), Kareena Kaushik (60 kg) and Shivani Prajapati (75 kg) won silver medals. All medals come in Sanda category. 22 -Year -old Sagar Dahiya of Nahari Village in Sonepat won a bronze medal in the 56 kg category. This performance is seen worldwide as an important incentive for the Indian Wushu. It was the first time three Indian women had made Sanda athletes Vushu the final of the World Championships. 21 -Year -old Kareena of Jhajjar and 22 -Year -ou Shivani of Dadri Village in Greater Noida, both made their first competition internationally. Aparna, 21, of Sonepat won the gold at the Asia Cup in China and the silver medal in the Asian Championships in Macau. This achievement was supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport by Sports Authority of India (SAI). In 2025-26 Annual Calendar for Training and Competition was awarded an amount of 5 crores to Wushu Khel. An amount of 70 lakhs has been approved for the team’s participation in the 17th World Wushu Championships held in Brazil. At the event, Bhupinder Singh Bajwa, member of the IOA Executive Council, told Ians: “Our players did well. Two of the three girls were new. Nevertheless, their performance was excellent. Our goal in the Asian Games is to win 4 to 5 medals.” Aparna Dahiya told Ians: “Gold slipped by hand, it is sad. Although three girls went and played all three of the final. This is the first time. We worked hard and practice for a long time with coaches. The coach got a lot of support. I prepare for 2026 Asian Games.” Kareena Kaushik spoke to Ians and said, “We did a lot of exercise. We got the result. However, we are sad not to win gold. We were given a great opportunity to practice and got comfort.” Sagar Dahiya expressed disappointment about not winning gold and said it was expected to win the medal in the Asian Games. Coach Rajesh Kumar told Ians: “Our team did well. It was the first time three women players went to the competition and played all three of the final. We expected a medal of all three players.
