Vice -Chancellor of the University under the circle of criticism, political storm as a result of the change of the name of the building
The race to change the names of buildings at Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) of Sirsa created a major political controversy, in the middle of which vice -chancellor is Narsi Ram Bishnoi. The dispute stems from the decision to name the most important buildings of the University in the Hindutva movement and regional symbols – this step received a strong response from the political opponents. Last week, the dispute rose quickly. On May 19, the multi -purpose hall of the University was named after the Namdhari Reform Guru Ram Singh. Two days later, the name of IT Data and Computer Center was changed in honor of the environment martyr Mata Amrita Devi Bishnoi. On May 23, the Student Activity Center was devoted to the Hindutva thinker feather Savarkar. Recently, on May 25, the university announced that its information center and guidance bureau would be named after the leader of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Ashok Singhal. Professor Bishnoi, who defends the move, calls Singhal ‘an impressive speaker, an influential organizer and an important person in the revival of India’s cultural heritage’. He said: “Name the university buildings in the name of such celebrities will inspire students’ values of national service, cultural pride and morality.” Ashok Singhal, who was born in Agra in 1926, studied engineering at Banaras Hindu University and began his career as a full -time volunteer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He later became the international executive chairman of VHP and was a central man in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. Opposition parties – However, Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) has criticized the change. At a press conference on May 25, Digvijay Singh Chautala, general secretary of the JJP, accused the vice -chancellor of his jurisdiction. He claimed that the Student Activity Center would be originally nominated after former Punjab Minister Parkash Singh Badal, named after the decision of the then Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala.
