'One small mistake, and you are told to leave': Part -time worker reveals cruel reality behind the 10 -minute delivery | Today news
India’s fast trading industry is a witness to a boom, where businesses such as Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Flipkart minutes and Zepto by the time are chasing goods ordered online. However, people who work in these businesses face extreme physical and spiritual challenges, and many shed light on the cruel reality behind the ten -minute delivery model. In a Reddit post, a user on social media shared their ‘part-time’ experience for bright-tailed, an Indian Quick Commerce giant. “I worked at Blinkit as a part-time picker and packer while studying, and the experience really opened my eyes,” the Reddit user said in their post. The user further claimed that people liked the idea of getting groceries or snacks at their door within ten minutes, without having an idea of what was actually behind the “ultrafast” service. “The pressure on workers is at the next level and honest, kind of Eng,” the Reddit user said in the post. Dark stores The warehouses of these fast trading companies are also known as ‘dark stores’ in the industry. The social media user emphasized how these warehouses are super small, packed with shelves and items, and is expected to work uninterrupted. ‘We will be expected to run incessantly while choosing orders. Like running, not running fast. You avoid other pickers, turn sharp corners and rush at a timer, ‘the user said in the mail. They also shared their experience on how the user allegedly collided with a man and broke their phone due to the constant rush and “no safety”. ‘We had to follow a timer named PPI (per pick item). If it takes even a few extra seconds to find an item (maybe it is wrong or out of stock), the driver says you should report and go home. The pressure of higher ups is crazy, and drivers just give it to the workers, ‘said the user in the mail on Reddit. What is the experience of full -time staff? According to the social media post, this process is even more difficult for a full-time employee, as they allegedly download two to three trucks with manual labor daily and work longer hours than scheduled. The Reddit user also claimed that full-time staff often work without proper overtime, even in the “stock cooling rooms”, which are physically tough, and if the part-time does not work, all the workloads come to the full-time staff members. ‘These guys are constantly on their feet and barely get proper breaks. And if something goes wrong, they become the blame, ‘the poster claims. The reality of ten minutes delivery The Reddit post also claimed that there is no time for staff to breathe, as the work ‘uninterrupted pressure’ places on them for a payment that is not worth it ‘. “It’s not safe. Workers run through tight spaces all day. Accidents occur frequently. This is a good pressure on your head. There is uninterrupted pressure, no time to breathe. Zero tolerance for delays. One small mistake, and you are told to leave. The payment is not worth it. The risk, tension and treatment do not agree with what you deserve, ‘says the social media user in the mail. The Reddit user also claimed that the system of “10-minute delivery” was not built on efficiency, but rather on “workers to their limits”. “Maybe it’s time we care more about workers well -being than a very fast comfort,” they said in the mail. The user shared the post based on real experiences and accepted that he used the help of AI to write the post “clearly”. Inquiries sent to Blinkit’s parent company, Eternal (formerly known as Zomato), remain unanswered. We will update the story when we get an answer from the business. Inquiries were also sent to other 10-minute delivery service providers, including Swiggy Instamart, Zepto and Flipkart, for their official response.
