Jakarta – The School Entrance Prosecutor Program (JMS) is an effort by the Jayawijaya District Prosecutor’s Office to increase legal awareness among students. Through the anti-bullying theme, this activity highlights the importance of understanding the legal impact of bullying in schools. Head of the Intelligence Division of the Jayawijaya District Attorney’s Office, Boston, Robert Marganda Siahaan, said that the bullying theme in the JMS program was chosen because cases of bullying among students are now a serious concern because, apart from causing psychological damage to victims, it also has the potential to trigger conflict between students and between community groups. “Why are we using the theme of bullying? Because if we look back recently, the consequences of bullying among school children, especially in the fifth district yesterday, because of that bullying, the consequences were deadly,” Boston told detikcom some time ago. This condition is a strong reason for the prosecutor’s office to emphasize the importance of social awareness and responsibility among students. “How fatal was it that there was arson in one city, because of bullying. So that’s why I took the theme of bullying, to give awareness to all these students, so that they don’t do bullying, it can have fatal consequences,” he explained. Although the program implementation is going well, Boston does not deny that there are several technical obstacles. He said that limited facilities and an unstable security situation often became challenges to carry out activities in the field. “Well, if there are really significant obstacles, then there aren’t any, if they are small obstacles, yes, we consider them to be small pebbles, like our only facilities that are missing, those obstacles are security issues, which, as I said earlier, is uncertain security,” he said. “So how do we deal with this uncertain security issue? Well, we usually choose those schools that we can still reach,” he continued. Meanwhile, the principal of SMPN 3 Wamena, Ansgar Blasius Biru, considered this activity very relevant to the circumstances of his students. He admitted that most students still do not understand that harsh words or teasing are actually included in bullying. “Well, when it comes to bullying, they themselves are still very, very flawed, because of what? They live with themselves, but they think of them as normal words, for example harsh words, the word dog, the word pig, to them they are like joke words, but their meaning actually enters the realm of bullying,” he said. One of the students of SMPN 3 Wamena, Desiana Hubi, said that she is now more aware of the importance of respecting each other without discriminating against backgrounds. “Regarding school relationships, for example, like friends from different villages, sometimes there are ours, there are also indigenous children in Papua, there are also those who often belittle them, or feel that they are different. It is as if they are different from us, we are indigenous children in Papua. So we also often bully them, so we only know how to do it for us in our class, not peers who bully us in the future, so that we are peers, not our peers, so that we are friends. otherwise so that we the same,” Desiana said. Through this program, the Jayawijaya District Prosecutor’s Office is trying to turn Wamena students into a generation that is aware of the law and rejects all forms of bullying. It is hoped that activities like this can create a safe, peaceful and respectful educational environment in the country of Papua. (prf/ega)
