The political stir on the Waqf Amendment Bill has intensified. Even before appearing in Parliament, many parties have reacted to this bill. Janata Dal United (JDU), who is involved in the NDA alliance, has also clarified its position on this issue. JDU national spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s commitment has always been with the minority community and his government has always taken justice.
Rajiv Ranjan said that many prominent persons of the Muslim community had met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and shared their concerns regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill. Keeping these apprehensions in mind, the Chief Minister directed the party leaders to keep these issues in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).
JDU spokesperson said that party MP Dileshwar Kamat has put all the questions related to the bill prominently in JPC. He is confident that these questions must have been included in the draft of the bill. He also reiterated that Nitish Kumar’s leadership has been successful in maintaining social harmony in Bihar.
Rajiv Ranjan said that there were never riots in Bihar during Nitish Kumar’s reign, nor did there ever come to impose curfew. On the contrary, there were many riots in Bihar before he came to power. He especially mentioned the Bhagalpur riots of the Congress rule and 11 riots during the RJD rule. He claimed that the victims of these riots only got justice in Nitish Kumar’s government.
The Waqf Amendment Bill is to be introduced in the Lok Sabha on April 2 (Wednesday) immediately after the Question Hour, after which it will be discussed for eight hours. The politics of Bihar has become hot about this. Opposition parties are making their strategy on this issue, while JDU has made it clear that it is committed to protect the interests of the minority community.
