Joey Lawrence recently recalled his first-ever fishing trip as a kid — which just so happened to be with the legendary comedy actor John Candy.
While speaking on a panel with his brothers Matthew Lawrence and Andrew “Andy” Lawrence at 90s Con at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, Conn., Joey, 48, was asked the “craziest” thing that’s ever happened to him on a movie set over the course of his more than 30-year career. That’s when the actor shared that he once went fishing with two Hollywood heavyweights.
“I caught a flounder in St. Petersburg, Florida, with Carl Reiner, who’s a very famous director, (and) I didn’t even realize who he was, but he was very famous back in the ’60s, the ’50s and ’70s,” Joey explained.
“Anyway, I was doing a movie called Summer Rental with John Candy. I caught a flounder. First time I’d ever fished. An incredible-size flounder. I guess it was a massive flounder, and the chef cooked it and John Candy ate it for lunch,” he continued, adding, “John Candy’s the best.”

This prompted Joey’s siblings to share their craziest stories as well, with Andy, 37, revealing that he used to hang out with Tom Arnold and Arnold Schwarzenegger when he worked on a show with Tom in the ’90s.

“I did a show with Tom Arnold (Tom on CBS), who was a very good friend of mine,” he explained. “And, and he threw me in the back of his car with one of his buddies — who was Arnold Schwarzenegger — and they had me hold a lit cigar. I was 7. They just thought it was so funny to see the little kid holding a cigar in a Rolls-Royce.”
Matthew, 45, then revealed that his top moment entailed having his first kiss on camera.
”There was a girl who planted a huge kiss on me and I had never kissed a girl before, and she was shocked and I was shocked, and it was very awkward,” he told the audience.

The brothers also delved into some of their all-time favorite experiences in the industry — as well as if there was ever a project that one of the siblings did that the others wished they had also been a part of at the time.

“Well, I mean, you know, no, honestly,” Joey said. “I mean, it’s been sort of different for all of us. Matt getting to work with Robin Williams (in Mrs. Doubtfire). I would love to work with Robin Williams. He was such a legend, so I think that was an amazing experience to hear him talk about it and all the great memories that he has. It would have been cool to work with somebody of that caliber.”
“I’m having a hard time,” Andy added, “Because being the youngest, I was lucky enough to be put into most of the things that my brothers were in already. When I was playing Young Joe or something like that.”
“I was gonna say, well, it would have been fun to do Blossombut I did,” Matt said. “They put me on as young Joey.”

The trio also provided an update on Lawrence Housea single-cam comedy they have been working on which they hope to eventually get picked up by a network.
“It’s a massively large machine that is behind it, and they move at snail’s speed. But we recently finished all of the episodes that we needed to film, so now it’s in the editing process,” Joey said.
