In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, the Hollywood star shared how she experienced criticism early and learned to define herself by who she wanted to be, not just through her work. Early challenges formed Julia Roberts’ mindset Julia Roberts, 57, told People Magazine: “I don’t think I went to my career with a lot of confidence.” She said she met “some critical people who were really cruel”, and that experience made her think deeply about the kind of person she wanted to become. “It was so much more about who I wanted to be as opposed to what kind of career I wanted,” explained the ‘After the Hunt’ star. The Oscar-winning actress shared that her life between the ages of 15 and 25 was full of up and downhill. “It was more bumps than smooth sailing,” she said. But she also searched for the positive. “Even then I would have gratitude. I would think, ‘There is a reason why it should be so difficult. “Now I consider it lessons for which I am grateful for proving my endurance for myself. “Roberts said uncertainty once made her freeze when someone embarrassed her.” Being unsure could be crippled, “she said in the interview.” If someone embarrassed me, it stopped me. ” Over time, she has learned that this industry is “not one to be in if you cannot take criticism or hardness or be embarrassed.” She remembers watching the Tonight Show as a child, seeing a music trip on stage and feeling his embarrassment deeply. Personal growth by experience now, almost four decades later, Roberts says her choices are about ‘personal evolution and discovery’.
