JYOTI SUNITA KULLU: Hockey started at the age of 11, became inspiration for everyone
New -Delhi, September 8 (IANS). Jyoti Sunita Kullu, who comes from Sundargarh in Odisha, is inspiring for girls who see their future in hockey. He played for India and won many medals, including gold, who did well in various tournaments. Jyoti Sunita Kullu was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2007 by India’s first female President Pratibha Patil. After receiving this honor, he described it as a great honor for himself. The player was born on September 9 in Sundargarh, Odisha, and brought Indian hockey with his brilliant performance to new heights. He made his international debut at the Indira Gandhi Gold Cup in Delhi in 1996. His leadership, speed and round points skills made him an inspiration in Indian hockey. He won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2002 (Manchester). Jyoti contributed significantly in the tournament as a top scorer with 4 goals, especially two goals in the quarterfinals against South Africa and in the semi -finals against New Zealand a leading role in the team’s victory. One of his goals against New Zealand during the Commonwealth Games in 2002, in which he defeated five defenders and defeated the goalkeeper, is still unforgettable today. Jyoti was born in the Bagbura village of the Sundargarh district of Odisha. She was initially in athletics, but at the age of 11, she started playing hockey on the advice of her teacher. She trained for five years at the Panaposh Sports Hostel in Rourkela and later attended the Kapurthala Hockey Academy in Punjab. Jyoti Sunita Kullu is a leading personality in Odisha and Indian Women’s Hockey. She made a way for women in male -oriented sports and became an inspiration to other female players like Deep Grace Ekka, from the area like Sundargarh.
