Karva Chauth celebrated in Punjab, married women hold on to the man's longevity

Amritsar, October 10 (IANS). The Feast of Karva Chauth is celebrated in Punjab with traditional dedication and great enthusiasm. Married women take Nirjala from sunrise to Moonrise, and pray for longevity, good health and uninterrupted happiness of their husbands. There was an atmosphere of celebration and dedication during the day, and the markets were also alive until late evening. The joy of Karva Chauth was especially seen in Gurunagar Amritsar. Women started with ‘Sargi’ early in the morning. In the afternoon, brides dressed in traditional clothing and beautiful jewelry collected in groups and performed the ritual worship of Karva Mata, Lord Shiva, Mata Parvati and Lord Ganesha. After listening to the story, the women exchanged vows and blessed each other to be married forever. After the puja, the preparations to break the fast began in the evening. Despite the fasting of the day, there was a glow of happiness and enthusiasm on the faces of women instead of fatigue. In many places, women enjoyed the festival with folk songs, dance and various entertaining games. As the evening approached, everyone’s eyes eagerly turned to the sky to see the moon. The moon was seen in Amritsar around 08.25 hours, after which women offered Argoya by watching the moon and then watching the face of their husbands through a sieve. The married women completed their fast by taking water from the man’s hand. The women who observe the Fast said they were eagerly waiting for this day. He said that Karva Chauth is not only a fast, but a symbol of the deep relationship of love, sacrifice and trust between husband and wife.
