Maharana Raimal (1472-1508 AD) settled the Godwal Brahmins of Kashyap Gotra – Ganpawat, Deora, Bhilawat and Tarawari – by giving them 1,765 bighas of government land (mafidari). These four families created pols from their respective shares: Ganapavatani Pol, Devdani Pol, Bhilawatani Pol and Tarawadi Pol. Later the family went on a trip to Kashi. While returning, a silver idol of a goddess with four hands was suddenly found in a bundle of belongings of the Ganapata family. The family considered it a blessing from the Kuldevi and installed it on the Ganpavat pole. Because of his association with Kashi Yatra, Mataji was called Kashi Mata.
