Great relief! Canada announces that TOEFL Essentials will be accepted for PR applications soon
Foreign citizens who plan to get permanent residence in Canada will soon have another language test option to prove their English skill. Immigration, refugees and citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin to accept the test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL) in the near future, Cicnews reports. Currently, the IRCC does not accept the TOEFL test, but it will update its official website as soon as the acceptance begins. This move will enable foreign citizens under its permanent residency program to take the ASFEL test to prove the skill of the English language. The Education Test Service (ETS), the organization performing the TOEFL, was said on Thursday that it was added as a designated language test organization by the IRCC. In a statement, ETS said it is currently working with the IRCC on “the steps that lead to the acceptance (from the TOEFL Essentials) and will share timing and test details once it is confirmed.” Who will be affected? The new language test option applies to the foreign citizens who apply under IRCC’s permanent economic immigration programs. This includes: Express entry-managed programs, the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). About TOEFL Essentials The TOEFL Essentials test is designed to measure the four core English skills-listening, reading, writing and speaking-through ‘practical, task-based activities that reflect the actual communication’. The test lasts about 1.5 hours. Test format The TOEFL test consists of four sections – listening, reading, writing and talking. It also contains a short, uncut personal video commissioning. The test measures skills in both academic and general contexts, and rely on short, quick tasks to present test questions. Test takers get immediate results for listening and reading, with non -official scores shown immediately after the completion of the test. Official results are released within six days or less online. Score reports can be sent to an unlimited number of institutions without extra cost.
