Prime Harvest, Semarang Walkot appreciation for Maggot cultivation in Jabung

Jakarta – Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng attended the Maggot Cultivation Prime Harvest in Jabungan Village, Banyumanik district. This activity is part of the Gumregah (Community Integrated Movement Management Movement) program initiated by the Semarang city government. In his remarks, Agustina appreciates the innovations conducted by Jabung residents. “It is a real breakthrough and strategic solution to overcome the problem of organic waste in our city. Since more than 60% of the waste is in TPA Jatibarang organic waste, the presence of programs like this is very important,” said Agustina, Sunday (9/14/2025). In less than two months, the location of cultivation in Jabung was able to produce 100 kg of Maggot per day, while spending 1 to 2 tonnes of organic waste each day. More than just managing waste, this program also focuses on community empowerment. Maggot crops will be used as a high nutritional feed for livestock, for organic fertilizer (kasgot) for farmers of the water spinach, chili and tomatoes. All of these activities were performed on the ‘Banyumanik empowered’ land and managed by locals. “Which pets (livestock) will have a high economic value if you eat maggot? Chickens, catfish and ducks,” Agustina explained. “Yes, later in 2026 we will reduce the experiment to combine the Maggot House business with the livestock business,” he continued. Agustina hopes that the success of the program in Jabung can inspire other towns in Semarang to apply the same thing. Because the long -term commitment of the Semarang City Government (Pemkot) at the Semarang Clean program must be supported by all levels of society. “Out of the garbage that was a problem, a solution is now born that gives added value economically, environmental and socially.
