Thiruvananthapuram, October 15 (IANS). Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed grief over the demise of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He wrote on social media platform X that he is deeply saddened by the demise of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was in Kerala for Ayurvedic treatment. He wrote that his contribution to democracy and public life in Africa is incomparable. On behalf of Kerala, I offer my deepest condolences to his family and the people of Kenya. At the age of 80, he died of a heart attack during a morning walk in Koothattukulam, Kerala. Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier condoled the demise of Odinga. He describes Odinga as a ‘dear friend of India’ and recalls his meeting with him during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat. In a post on social media platform, Odinga reached Koothattukulam six days ago with his daughter and close family members. Local officials said he suffered a heart attack while walking around 6:30 a.m. and was taken to hospital in critical condition. But he could not be saved. His mortal remains were kept in the Deva Math Hospital in Koothattukulam. A prominent figure in Kenyan politics for more than four decades, Odinga served as the country’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013. Odinga was known for his fiery speeches and grassroots involvement. He was a key figure in the formation of modern Kenyan democracy.
