Meanwhile, there is 1 province, namely North Maluku, which is experiencing slight deflation. “If we look at 25 provinces that are within the national target range, it means that control in the regions is going quite well,” said Purbaya. Purbaya also explained the reasons for the importance of maintaining inflation. According to him, controlled inflation can maintain socio-political stability. He then gave an example of why the 2nd President, Suharto, was able to survive for 32 years of government. “I want to tell you a little about why inflation is important. First, inflation can maintain socio-political stability. So one of the secrets why Pak Harto could survive 32 years is that he could maintain price stability, especially rice, the others will follow the price of rice,” said Purbaya. Maintaining inflation can increase popularity Therefore, Purbaya believes that maintaining inflation is very important because apart from maintaining food prices and socio-political stability, it can increase the popularity of regional leaders. According to him, if regional chiefs can control inflation, they will almost certainly be re-elected in the general election. “So inflation is very, very important, also to increase the popularity of regional leaders. If prices are not controlled in the region, then in the future, if there is an election, they will no longer be elected,” he said. “If ladies and gentlemen can control regional prices, they will almost certainly be able to be re-elected, without any other frills. So the stomach is still the main political tool in Indonesia,” said Purbaya. It is known that the national inflation rate (yoy) in September 2025 will be 2.65%. He said that price affordability in various regions is improving, because the supply is running smoothly and distribution between regions has been more efficient. Apart from that, Purbaya requested that TPIP and TPID continue to work together to create appropriate and measurable national inflation control policies. “Our task now is not only to keep inflation low, but also to maintain price and supply stability in a sustainable manner,” he said.
