America has hesitated to give F-104 to India. Once the agreement was detected from the Soviet Union, the dice wanted to reverse. MIG-21 KA Safarnama: Now we’ve moved forward … America never expected this answer from India. India’s response to India has created panic from the US embassy in India to the White House of Washington. In fact, the real start of this case was at the end of the 1962 Indo-China War. Just after this war, the USA F-104 gave Storfighter aircraft to Pakistan. After this power from America, Pakistan began to pull out. At the same time, to increase its strength in the air, India also wanted to handle America with F-104 Starfighter aircraft. But the US, which was plunged into the love of Pakistan, began to look at this agreement. After realizing the intentions of America, India continued their steps and started talking about MIG-21s with the then Soviet Union (today’s Russia). The news of this agreement increased the restlessness of Pentagon to the White House. The US has made several diplomatic efforts to prevent India from getting closer to the Soviet Union. The US embassy in India and officials from the State Department in Washington suggested to the White House that F-104 aircraft should be sold to India so that it cannot depend on the Soviet weapons. He feared that if India bought weapons at the Soviet Union, the Soviet technician and advisor would gain access to the Indian forces. The US president’s offer to convince India, then US ambassador John Kenneth Gaelbrathy said that if India buys Soviet aircraft like MIG-21, the Soviet coach and technician who goes with Indian military officials will increase. The documents of the US State Department also mentioned that if the US did not provide enough support to India, India would turn to the Soviet Union. Galbrath wrote in a thread, saying that the purchase of Soviet weapons will increase the influence of the Soviet Union in the Indian army. In September 1962, a report by the US State Department claimed that then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was reluctant to the MIG agreement. However, in a conversation with reporters in London, Nehru acknowledged that the conversation about the MIG agreement had advanced greatly. On the other hand, the Soviet Union also had much doubt to deliver MIG-21 to India. He had technical and political challenges before him. Soviet officials believe that India has a limited capacity to produce supersonic fighter plans. In addition, the Communist China strongly opposed the Soviet proposal to provide the facility to make India MIG-21s. The US has also tried to encourage India to reject the Soviet proposal. For this, US President John F. Kennedy also approved India to sell India in nine C-130 transport aircraft. After all, MIG-21 joined the Indian Air Force, but all these attempts were unsuccessful. India not only included MIG-21 in its Air Force, but also began its massive creation in the facilities of Ozar near Nashik in Maharashtra and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Karlaput, Odisha. MIG-21 increased the strength of the Indian Air Force and the plane remained his spine for decades. The agreement further strengthened the military cooperation between India and the Soviet Union, which proved the concern of America correctly. Let us tell you that India was an important strategic partner among world powers at the time. Both America and the Soviet Union wanted to bring India to their favor. While the US has tried to connect India to itself through diplomatic pressure and attractive proposals, the Soviet Union has won India’s confidence by offering advanced fighter aircraft such as MIG-21s. This agreement not only strengthened the Indian Air Force, but also made India-Soviyat relations extremely effective.
