Kolkata hospital molestation accused sent to police custody till October 31
Kolkata, October 24 (IANS). A special court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) on Friday sent a man accused of molesting a minor at the government-run SSKM Medical College in south Kolkata to police custody till October 31. The government counsel told the court that CCTV footage confirmed that accused Amit Malik took the 15-year-old care of her traumatized toilet and victim. The accused is clearly seen in the footage taking the victim to the toilet, which is the scene of the incident. The prosecution also sought permission to conduct DNA test of accused Amit Malik and record confidential statement. The state health department had earlier sought a report on the incident from SSKM officials and sought an explanation on how the accused could roam freely inside the hospital despite not being affiliated with it. Malik, a contractual employee currently working at NRS Medical College and Hospital, was earlier associated with SSKM and allegedly misused that old link to gain access to the hospital. The main charge against Amit Malik is that of molesting a 15-year-old girl in an SSKM toilet. The victim reached the outpatient department for treatment when the accused, who allegedly posed as a doctor, took her to the trauma care toilet and molested her. The girl ran out in shock and narrated the whole incident to her parents. After the complaint, the Bhawanipur police station was informed and a police team arrested the accused on Wednesday evening. Earlier this week, a traffic warden was arrested for beating up a female junior doctor working at a government hospital in Uluberia in Howrah district, adjacent to Kolkata. The accused home guard also threatened the female doctor with rape. –IANS MS/ABM Share this story Tags
