Kolkata: Stepping into 'science-oriented generation', students got experience of scientific innovation

Hooghly, October 16 (IANS). A special scientific seminar and workshop was recently organized at Rabindra Bhawan, Chandannagar, Hooghly, Kolkata, with the main objective of promoting informative and valuable interaction between students and eminent scientists. Around 450 students from various schools of Chandannagar participated in this one day student enrichment program titled ‘Science Camp’. This initiative aimed to create a future ‘science-oriented generation’ and encourage scientific temper among students. The program was organized by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Kolkata Unit and the Central Glass and Ceramics Research Institute. During the program, scientists highlighted diverse aspects of their research, technological innovations and scientific applications. Students were given the opportunity to observe and learn about scientific innovations and explorations through hands-on experiments and demonstrations. A scientist who attended the event said that the aim of this science exhibition is to develop ‘scientific engagement’ between students and scientists as envisaged by the Prime Minister in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. The scientific community believes that such initiatives will inspire research-oriented thinking in future generations and strengthen the science practice of the country. The students who participated in the workshop also called it a positive step. Student Shritama Das praised the initiative and thanked the Prime Minister for the idea of student-scientist connection. At the same time, Jayshree Saha said that the flow of scientific ideas from such workshops would inspire them in the future and give a new direction to their interest in science. This program strives to expose students to the importance of practical experience and scientific thinking, rather than limiting them to only academic knowledge, thereby establishing a strong link between education and innovation. –IANS ASH/ABM Share this story Tags
