He emphasized that President Prabowo subianto gave two main tasks to the P2MI ministry, namely the protection of Indonesian migrant workers and the improvement of his skills. In improving PMI’s skills, Mukhtarudin emphasized that improving vocational education and training in foreign language is a priority. “The first priority is to increase occupations, language and skills. The president emphasizes five important languages, namely English, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean and Arabic,” Mukhtarudin said in a written statement on Friday (3/10/2025). Mukhtarudin said that 41.168 Indonesian migrant workers of Western Java in 2025 were still recorded in the domestic sector such as domestic workers. Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan are the destination countries sought by migrant workers from Western Java. “The president emphasized the importance of quality placement, from the initial recruitment, when working, to protection and empowerment after returning. To support it, the professional program must be strengthened about ministries and local governments,” he explained. To support this, Mukhtarudin encouraged the provincial government of Western Java to take advantage of the Migrant Center Facility at Indonesian Education University (UPI) Bandung as a language training center and skills for prospective migrant workers. “We already have a migrant center at Upi Bandung, which could be an example of good practice. In the future, other universities in Western Java are also developed the same,” he explained. Mukhtarudin hopes this step can reduce unemployment, especially from high school and professional degree. It is also expected to open the way so that people can work abroad in a competent and dignified way. “Open unemployment comes from graduates in high school and professional high school. To prevent this, the government and stakeholders must improve skills, education and open jobs abroad as a strategic solution,” he said. Meanwhile, Dedi welcomes the vocational and language training program offered by the P2MI Ministry. He said the provincial government of Western Java is ready to train high school and vocational students from an early age. “I am welcome if there are information about the points of the destination country PMI-BEAUTIFUL. High school and vocational school children who have graduated have been preparing for Grade 3 with language and spiritual training. Dedi added, this step is important to turn the image of Indonesian migrant workers into the eyes of the world. Because currently the image of Indonesian migrant workers is still synonymous with domestic workers. “We want to change the image of Indonesian migrant workers who were synonymous with art. In fact, we have many skilled staff: nurses, car experts, electro, food, pharmacy and other fields. They can bear the good name of the country abroad,” he concluded. For information, this meeting ended with an agreement of KemenP2MI and the Western Java provincial government to strengthen the coordination of the protection and improvement of the skills of Indonesian migrant workers. This step is expected to change the image of PMI, from only domestic workers to skilled workers who boast the country.
